Brush the mesh after each run before material dries into it, check for torn or stretched mesh and replace it when the product quality drops, and grease moving parts on schedule. Keep belts guarded and the working area clear.

Compost work is dusty — a mask is sensible, and ventilation matters if you separate in an enclosed shed. Keep the machine covered when not in use so mesh and bearings do not take weather.
